Food Establishment and Bar Operating Guidelines

The County Executive and the Department of Public Health would like to promote the available dining options under the new food establishment and bar operating guidelines and encourage all County residents to please support these industries by using curbside, takeout, delivery, or outdoor services whenever possible.  While the guidelines have focused on the highest risk activities to prevent indoor, unmasked transmission of COVID-19,  these allowable activities are available and should be patronized to keep you, your family, and all of our restaurant workers safe this holiday season.

Please see additional information about the current operating guidelines below:

Businesses offering indoor concessions, such as movie theaters, where the food or drink would be consumed indoors, must cease concession service. Bar service and drinking establishments must act accordingly:

  • All drinking establishments must only provide carry-out and delivery. No consumption is allowed on the premises.
  • Bars that are separate areas in restaurants and hotels or other facilities (such as roof top bars, lounge bars, and other defined areas where primarily alcoholic beverages are served) must also only provide carry-out and delivery.

The goal of these guidelines is to reduce the risk of spreading the virus among staff and guests in these facilities. The core set of principles to prevent the spread of infections by respiratory transmission (including COVID-19) include:

  • Practice social distancing – maintain 6 feet between and among employees and guests at all times.
  • Monitor employee health – check the status of your employee’s health and screen employees for COVID-19.
  • Use protective equipment – a fabric face cover must always be worn by employees and guests, except when eating.
  • Clean/sanitize/disinfect – wash and sanitize hands, and wipe down frequently touched surfaces with EPA-approved disinfectant.‚Äč
